How do Montmorency Cherries Help?

Montmorency cherries (sour cherries) are a rich source of powerful antioxidants called anthocyanins which give cherries their deep, rich colour are known for their strong anti-inflammatory properties. They contain potent phytonutrients which help to maintain healthy joint function, mobility and flexibility.

Sour cherries increase muscle strength, reduce soreness and improve recovery times plus they are one of the few natural food sources of melatonin, which helps improve sleep cycles so you can fully recover from workouts.

Plus sour cherries are proven to boost your immune system. One study looked at the upper respiratory tract symptoms (URTS) commonly experienced by marathon runners after a race. 50% of the runners given the placebo developed URTS following the race, whereas none of those in the sour cherry juice group did.

How does Beetroot Help?

A secret superfood, Beetroot is a highly nutritious root vegetable that revitalises your body by increasing stamina. It contains exceptionally high levels of dietary nitrates which lower blood pressure by causing blood vessels to dilate and allows more oxygen to reach energy-producing mitochondria in cells.

Beets are often used by athletes because they have been shown to improve athletic performance by up to 20%.  

Beetroot is a rich source of potent antioxidants (such as betanin, the pigment that gives beetroot its deep colour) and other essential nutrients, including magnesium, manganese, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, soluble fibre, calcium, iron, vitamins A, B and C, folic acid and betaine.

Beetroot: a rich source of potent antioxidants (such as betanin, the pigment that gives beetroot its deep colour) and other essential nutrients, including magnesium, manganese, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, soluble fibre, calcium, iron, vitamins A, B and C, folic acid and betaine. Beetroot’s carotenoids and flavonoids can help to reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which could lead to damaged artery walls. It has also been shown to lower blood pressure and thereby help to prevent cardiovascular problems.

While beetroot is certainly notable for its high nutrient content, it is its capacity to absorb and store exceptionally high levels of dietary nitrate that earns it the “super-root” title. Studies have demonstrated the positive effects that beetroot can have on exercise performance and muscle growth. Several studies have shown that betaine (a nutrient found in high levels in beetroot) supports healthy liver function, plus it is also naturally rich in alkaline elements, making it a great addition to any cleanse and detox programme.

Montmorency cherries also contain potent phytonutrients, including anthocyanins (natural pigments) and other phenolic and flavonoid compounds.
